New Delhi, August 7, 2022. Dr Marek Sobola, Servare et Manere Secretary-General & Founder, met in New Delhi with Dr Karan Singh, laureate of the Memorial Medal of Tree of Peace, Servare et Manere award. The very friendly meeting took place at Dr Karan Singh’s Private residence.
Dr Singh was a member of India’s Upper House of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha. He was born heir apparent to the then ruler of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Between the years 1949 – 1952 he ruled as Prince Regent of Jammu and Kashmir and served till the monarchy’s abolition in 1952. Subsequently was appointed ‘Sadr-e-Riyasat’ (‘Head of State’) in 1952 and Governor of the State in 1964. In the past, Dr Karan Singh was an Ambassador of India to the United States, Minister of Education and Culture, Minister for Health and Family Planning, Minister of Tourism and also Minister of Civil Aviation. Until 2018 was India’s representative on UNESCO’s Executive Board and also has been a member of UNESCO’s International Commission on Education in the Twenty-first Century.
