Important note about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, February 24, 2022:
Although we are a strictly apolitical initiative, we must categorically condemn the evils and injustices of war, because ordinary people suffer the most in every war. We condemn gross violations of international law and the principles of the UN Charter. There is no rational justification for this war. Today, we are witnessing what a fragile commodity peace and friendship are. We believe that there are still people in Russia who want true peace without lies and political propaganda. We wish all these Russians good luck and keep their fingers crossed!
Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, October 12, 2021. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Alexander Dubček’s birth, the 19th Tree of Peace was planted in Nizhny Novgorod, where Dubcek spent part of his youth.
The planting of the memorial tree was part of the official reminder and unveiling of the memorial pillar to Alexander Dubček. The Tree of Peace was planted by Ivan Korčok, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic; Pavol Dubček, son of Alexander Dubček; Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region Yevgeny Borisovitch Ljulin; Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Andrei Grigorievich Sanosyan; Chairman of the Group of the Federation Council for Cooperation with the National Council of the Slovak Republic Vyacheslav Stepanovich Timchenko; Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Marián Kéry; Ľubomír Rehák PPSP, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Russian Federation and Marek Sobola, founder of the Tree of Peace.
After the planting ceremony, Servare et Manere awarded the Memorial Medal of the Tree of Peace, a high award of the association, to the four key personalities of the whole event for their support of peace, understanding and cooperation between nations: Minister Ivan Korčok, Ambassador Ľubomír Rehák PPSP, Pavol Dubček and Mr. Alexander Vladimirovich Nagin, Mayor of Avtozavodsky City District of Nizhny Novgorod – the place where the 19th Tree of Peace was planted and at the same time the second memorial tree of this international project in the Russian Federation. The New Telegraph Agency Volga, Region State Autonomous Institution of the Nizhny Novgorod Region together with the official website of the Department of International Relations of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region informed about the event.
