Special consultative status ECOSOC Servare et Manere Tree of Peace

Servare et Manere has been granted special consultative status with the UN ECOSOC

New York, July 21/ August 8, 2022. The Slovak NGO Servare et Manere is the second ever organization in the history of the Slovak Republic to receive a Special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). On July 21, 2022, the UN Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations recommended that the ECOSOC plenary session Servare et Manere be granted a Special consultative status. In total, 266 non-governmental organizations from all over the world were assessed at several sessions. After approval and obtaining the status, Servare et Manere was entered in the relevant register, which was confirmed to the organization on August 8 by Mr Wook-Jin Chang, Chief of NGO Branch of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Currently, almost 5,000 organizations from all over the world have this Special status, operating in various fields, including education, health, poverty alleviation, human rights and other population issues.
Slovak Ambassador Klára Novotná, who is also the Coordinator of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic for the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, congratulated Secretary-General of Servare et Manere on this extraordinary achievement. The Slovak Republic will be active in ECOSOC from January 1, 2023 for a period of three years. On this occasion, the Slovak Post Office (Slovak: Slovenská pošta) issued on July 30, 2022, two occasional postmarks “Osobitný štatút Servare et Manere” with issue numbers PPP 42/22 and PPP 43/22.
NGOs contribute to many activities including dissemination of information, awareness raising, education on sustainable development, policy advocacy, joint operational projects, participation in intergovernmental processes and provision of services and technical expertise. The obtained status will allow Servare et Manere to join the wider UN system and defend ideas of the Tree of Peace especially abroad. NGOs accredited by the UN Economic and Social Council can participate in many events, including regular meetings of ECOSOC, its functional commissions and other subsidiary bodies.The United Nations Economic and Social Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, responsible for coordinating the economic and social fields of the organization, specifically in regards to the fifteen specialised agencies, the eight functional commissions, and the five regional commissions under its jurisdiction. It has 54 members.
