Rep. n° 11/2023
Sint Maarten, April 28, 2023. We transported Servare et Manere flag and Slovak stone from the Divina village, which is located in northwestern Slovakia, to the Caribbean island of Saint Martin via France. At the beginning of this year, together with the French sailor Olivier Merbau, we created a sub-project of the international Tree of Peace initiative called “Peace Cruise”. Its main actor will be sailor Merbau, who for his idea received an international honourable mention of Servare et Manere, entitled Friend of Peace. The stone from the village of Divina traveled to the Caribbean for more than 40 days and covered almost 9000 kilometers!

Sint Maarten is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and has a population of 39,689. It covers the southern 40% of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, while the northern 60% of the island is an overseas administrative corporation of France called Saint-Martin. The capital of the country is Philipsburg.
Olivier will continue to the Virgin Islands and then to Cuba to sail the Panama Canal under the Servare et Manere flag. The whole peace cruise project will culminate in the sinking of our Slovak stone in international waters as a symbol of friendship and understanding between nations and in memory of all the human victims who perished in the world’s seas. International waters (high seas) do not belong to any state’s jurisdiction, known under the doctrine of ‘mare liberum’. States have the right to fishing, navigation, overflight, laying cables and pipelines, as well as scientific research. On the map below, international waters are shown in dark blue, exclusive economic zones are marked in light blue.
