Tetovo, North Macedonia, August 16, 2021. Today, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Skopje, together with representatives of the Ministries of Defense of the Slovak Republic and the North Macedonian Republic, honoured the tragic death of Lt. Col. Ľubomír Orsag.
In connection with the 20th anniversary of the tragic event in which a member of the Army of the Slovak Republic, Lt. Col. Ľubomír Orsag, died on the territory of the then Republic of Macedonia. State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic Mr. Marián Majer unveiled a Memorial to this member of the European Union Monitoring Mission in the area of the Barracks “Kuzman Josifovski-Pitu” in Tetovo. Together with his ministerial colleague Mr. Dragan Nikolic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense of Northern Macedonia, laid wreaths at the memorial. The guests included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in Northern Macedonia, members of the Slovak Republic Police Corps serving in the country to protect its southern borders and other guests.
The design of the monument was provided by the Slovak NGO Servare et Manere, which is responsible for the implementation of the international project called Tree of Peace, which aims is to promote ideas of peace and friendship between nations and spread the ecological message by planting trees as a symbol of peace and memorials to military victims with respect to nature. The author of the monument is an authorized landscape architect and artist Marek Sobola from Žilina. The realization of the monument, as well as the entire provision of its production, was coordinated by Mr. Henrik Markuš, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to Northern Macedonia.
The unveiling of the monument was accompanied by media attention and statements by the State Secretaries of the Ministries of Defense of Slovakia and Northern Macedonia.
