Skopje/Tetovo, July 19, 2021. Dr. Marek Sobola, CEO of Servare et Manere and Mr. Henrik Markuš, Ambassador of Slovakia to North Macedonia, met today on the ground of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of North Macedonia with Lieutenant Colonel Biljana Nikolovska, head of the Department for Civil-Military Cooperation with the Regional Defence Centers to discuss regarding the details of the unveiling of the Memorial to Slovak Lieutenant Colonel Ľubomír Orsag. He was the only Slovak soldier in the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in the Balkans who perished in what is now North Macedonia. The negotiations took place exactly on the 20th anniversary of this sad and tragic event (July 19, 2001).
Negotiations continued in the Barracks “N.H. Kuzman Josifovski-Pitu” in Tetovo with Lieutenant Colonel Izeir Ejupi, commander of the 3rd Infantry Battalion from the 1st Infantry Brigade. The Slovak delegation was introduced to alternatives to the location of the Memorial in the barracks area. This Slovak Memorial will be the first international reverential object within the barracks in Tetovo.
The author of the Memorial is Marek Sobola, who prepared the proposal for the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic as a gift on behalf of NGO Servare et Manere, which implements the International Tree of Peace. The sculpture will be made in North Macedonia.
