Chocholná-Velčice, August 3, 2024. We planted the 36th Tree of Peace. This time in Slovakia! The Chocholná-Velčice Tennis Club in cooperation with the Chocholná-Velčice Municipal Office celebrated 50 years of tennis in the village on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in the Freedom Park (Park slobody).
On this occasion, a memorial tree was planted – the Tree of Peace, as a symbol of friendship, understanding and peace, which is also a symbol of sports diplomacy and its role in strengthening International Relations. The commemorative swamp oak (Quercus palustris) was planted by Mr. Miloslav Mečíř Sr., President of the Slovak Tennis Association and Olympic champion from Seoul 1988 together with the Secretary-General of Servare et Manere, representatives of the Tennis Club and the Chocholná-Velčice Municipal Office.
After the ceremony of planting and unveiling the memorial pillar, an exhibition tennis match followed on the Tennis Court in the Freedom Park.
